Calasparra is one of 13 municipal areas in the Murcia region seriously affected by depopulation and elderly populations, according to a recent study.
The populations of these 12 towns have an in income 2000 euros lower than the average and the urban centres are 10 kilometres further away tan hospital facilities, 24 minutes further away from universities, have a very high unemployment rate and almost double the number of elderly people compared to under 16’s.
The rural towns under threat of depopulation are Calasparra Ricote, Pliego, Aledo, Abanilla, Ojós, Ulea, Moratalla, Campos del Río, Albudeite, Bullas and Cehegín.
