Calasparra Town Hall has awarded the management of the Puerto Cave to two companies which will be investing 300,000 euros to improve accessibility and tourist resources.
The two companies include the local tourism company, Qalat, which will work with Tecnicas Mineras Santa Marta.
The proposal, accepted by the Town Hall Council, includes improving the lighting; in the installation of a WIFI network; environmental sensors to improve air quality, as well as workshops, organised potholing, better video vigilance and a cafeteria.
The two companies also plan to install a shop and improvements to the access road to the cave.
The cave is a subterranean cavity with the most extensive horizontal circuit in the region. It was discovered and explored 60 years ago and is famous for the abundance of stalactites, stalagmites and many other multi coloured karstic formations which make it´s galleries and chambers truly spectacular.
