The Provincial Audience of Murcia has rejected an appeal against the judge´s decision that found the former Mayor of Calasparra, Jose Velez, innocent of embezzling public funds.
The appeal, against the former Mayor and two of his councillors, was brought by three former opposition members on the Town Hall Council who have no further rights of appeal.
The appeal was based in the allegation that the Jose Velez and his councillors were paid for “full time duties” at the Town Hall when in fact they were part time.
At the end of August a judge found “there were insufficient solid and rational proof” of any illicit payment.
Now the Provincial Audience, dismissing the appeal, has found that an administrative agreement taken by the Town Hall Council was “valid and executed” and recognised the renewed condition of the councillors, who were part time, were now exclusively working for the Town Hall with retro-effective effect.
