The Murcia región has changed the protocols for tracing close contacts with people positive for Covid-19 and will only track “vulnerable groups.”
This change of strategy is aimed to relieve the strain on local Medical Centres inundated by the sixth wave and and the avalanche of new cases following the seasonal celebrations.
For now the Department of Health has ordered the tracking teams to trace possible positives amongst the vulnerable groups of the population and give them an appointment for a PCR test within five days of contact with a person infected.
These groups will be made up of people over 50 years old, pregnant women, patients being treated for cancer, transplant patients and those looking after vulnerable people.
If close contacts are not within these groups they will be given an appointment for an antigen test if they have symptoms.
Close contacts outside the vulnerable groups can call 900 12 12 12 or ask for an appointment through the “portal web” of the Murcia Health Service.
