There has been a 67% increase in the number of Covid-19 cases in the Murcia region in the last week and 56% more deaths.
Between December 20 and 26 there has been an explosion of new cases as 10,318 cases were registered compared to 6,977 the previous week.
In the same period 18 Covid deaths have been recorded compared to 10 in the previous week.
Although, the number of cases diagnosed in the last 24 hours currently stands at 903, compared to 949 on the previous Saturday, experts point out that fewer tests are carried out at weekends and over the fiestas.
A 95 year old woman died of the virus in the last 24 hours.
Hospitals are reported to be “overwhelmed” with nursing and medical staff working double shifts and patients trying to get an appointment at local Medical Centres in the region can expect to wait three to four weeks.
