The Met Office has issued an Orange weather warning for North West Murcia today (Saturday), which includes Calasparra, for high temperatures could reach 42C.
As always in Calasparra, the hottest hours are between 2pm and 9pm.
Readers are advised to use «cave mode» in the house and keep all windows closed and blinds or curtains drawn. Once hot air enters your home it is difficult to lower the temperature again, pàrticularly if you are worried about your electricity bill.
All national and regional parks in the region are closed in light of the extreme risk of forest fires and walkers and cyclists are being advised to stay at home. All work outside with machinery has been suspended.
The Met Office warns these are extremely high temperatures, which can be extremely dangerous, and asks people to take the warnings seriously.
Please follow the usual advice:
Avoid all activities outside during the hottest hours.
Avoid alcohol and caffeine which increase your body temperature.
Do not wait to be thirsty before you drink Thirst means you are already dehydrated. Drink plenty of water, juice and soft still drinks.
Eat light meals and wear light, loose clothing.
Try and stay cool!
Look after your pets and keep an eye on elderly and sick neighbours who are particularly vulnerable.
