Two Albanian men have been arrested and 3,000 marijuana plants confiscated after local police and Guardia Civil uncovered a massive plantation in the mountains in Calasparra.
The operation to dismantle the plantation began when the local police heard about the possible cultivation of marijuana in an area near the river with poor access.
After several days of surveillance an operation was mounted and officers needed to travel several kilometres down river to arrive at the plantation.
An area of the mountains near the river had been cleared, irrigation tanks had been set up, there were surveillance points, a long stay camp to enable the culprits to remain hidden and a small pier to enable them transport the marijuana by river.
The local police and the Guardia Civil carried out this joint operation with the assistance of the Civil Protection to help dismantling the camp and transporting the materials confiscated by river.
