The new Spanish government under the Partido Popular has announced that electricity prices will be frozen from January 2012.
The future president of the Government, Mariano Rajoy has assured consumers that he wants to “put a brake on and reduce” the cost of the electricity system in order to reduce the deficit and avoid passing increases onto to consumers.
Electricity prices for domestic consumers in Spain are the third most expensive in Europe and have risen by 10% over the last year.
The electricity system has an accumulated debt of 22,000 million euros.
