Marking the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the Mathausan Concentration Camp the local Socialist (PSOE) party has paid tribute to the seven Calasparrians who died there.
There is a monolith in Calasparra with the seven names of the deceased.
The Mayoress and memebers of the PSOE party also paid homage to a dead companion, Jose Sanchez Fernandez known as “el Nene” at the Municipal Cemetery.
Some 60% of the men sent to the Nazi concentration camps, mostly republican soldiers, died. Most of them were sent to Mathausan with the approval of Franco´s regime.
