The name of a designated nurse will appear on the medical card of every patient in the region in addition to the name of the family doctor.
The move, which should take immediate effect, forms part of the Health Plan for 2007 to 2010 and aims to improve primary health care and alleviate the workload of GPs.
The object is that the name of the designated nurse will appear on medical cards in addition to the name of the GP and will act as a “access door to the health service” in order to avoid unnecessary consultations with the doctor and generally improve the standard of care.
