The Carnival will go on! Not in the form we all know and love, with Calasparra dressing up and going mad in the main square, but virtually.
Calasparra Town Hall is organising the first Virtual Fancy Dress and Masks Competition to keep the tradition alive within the limitations imposed for the Covid-19 epidemic.
The Mayoress of Calasparra, Teresa Garcia, says: “The Carnival parades cannot go ahead this year but we wanted to organize this competition to try and maintain the magic and joy that the Carnival brings to our town.”
Anyone resident in Calasparra may take part and may enter whichever category they choose. There are no age limits.
Between February 16 and 28 you can enter by email calasparra@calasparra.org with your name and surname, telephone number and the name of your fancy dress. Accompany your application with good quality photos. Minors must present in the names of their mother or father or tutor. This personal data will be protected and used exclusively to contact the person if they win one of the prizes.
Prizes will be presented to entries for the quality of their fancy dress as well as its originality, scenery, photographic technique and “simpatia.” The use of a mask is obligatory.
1ºst Prize will be 100 euros; second: 75 euros; and third 50 euros.
The Head of the Fiestas Committee is asking everyone who normally takes part in the Carnival Parade, plus anyone new who is interested, to take part and maintain the tradition of the Carnival.
