Magistrates in Caravaca have imprisoned an experienced thief who is suspected of over 20 robberies with violence from vehicles, homes and commercial properties in Calasparra.
In September three suspected members of the criminal gang responsible for the mini crime wave were arrested and a fourth remained under investigation.
The investigation remained open while the robberies in Calasparra continued “causing considerable social alarm,” according to the police.
The Guardia Civil suspected that the crimes were being committed by an experienced criminal who was later identified, with the assistance of the public, as one of the principal leaders of the criminal organisation dismantled last December.
An operation to prevent further robberies was mounted by the Guardia Civil and the local police of Calasparra and to detain the suspect who employed “serious methods of security” to avoid being found.
However, the suspect was eventually found by officers who detained him and he appeared before Caravaca Magistrates who remanded him to prison.
The suspect is believed to have carried out as many as four robberies a month and more than a dozen crimes “against the patrimony.”
