WORKERS STRIKE AS RICE COOP CHIEF SACKED

Today is the second day of the strike by workers at the Esperanza Rice Cooperative (in front of the entrance to Consum) to protest against the sacking of their boss, Jose Ruiz Egea.
The strike began yesterday as members walked out and mounted a protest with a banner outside the cooperative building.
They are also protesting about an “extra payment” which should have been paid at the beginning of the year, according to the UGT union.
The Directors of the Cooperative say the sacking of Jose Ruiz Eghea was a “business decision.” However, the union consider the sacking: “an obvious contravention of the labour norms and agreements made during collective negotiations.”
The workers have voted unanimously for partial strike days on February 3,4,10 and 11.
The workers claim they do not understand the dismissal or the motives for it and are asking for his reinstatement.
So far the Directors of the Cooperative have failed to respond.
