The region of Murcia hit an unwelcome record yesterday registering 438 new cases of Covid-19 and four deaths in the last 24 hours.
This brings the total number of deaths from the virus in the region to 172.
The four recent deaths were all patients with pre-existing conditions: a man of 65 years from Cartagena; an 86 year-old man from Moratalla; and two women of 76 and 68 from Jumilla and Caravaca respectively.
The number of active cases in the region at the moment stands at 5,669. Some 5,330 are in isolation at home and 339 have been hospitalized. The number of patients in intensive care had fallen two since yesterday and stands at 60.
The new cases are distributed: Murcia (76); Lorca (62); and Cartagena (55). Jumilla registered 46 new cases in just 24 hours and the town is currently subject to Phase One restrictions.
There were also 26 new cases in Molina de Segura; 18 in Torre Pacheco; 15 in Totana; 14 in Yecla; 11 in Archena; 11 in Torres de Cotillas; 10 in La Union; 9 in Caravaca; 9 in Cieza; 8 in Alcantarilla; 7 in Los Alcazares; 7 in Fuente Alamo; and 6 in San Pedro del Pinatar. The rest of the cases are distributed amongst other municipal areas.
