TWO MORE AIRLINES ABANDON SAN JAVIER

San Javier airport will almost certainly close to commercial traffic next summer as yet another two airlines abandon winter flights from Murcia to Europe.
The latest companies to walk away from San Javier are Air Berlin and Norwegian Air, a move which leaves only five companies operating from the airport.
According to reports the airlines are in “final negotiations” with the new airport at Corvera due to open next summer although the expansion of Alicante airport is also partly responsible for the demise of San Javier.
Currently only Air Nostrum, which runs direct flights to Madrid; Ryanair, Jet2.com, Jetairfly and Easyjet operate from San Javier. Destinations from the airport are currently Bristol, Dublin, Edinburgh, Leeds-Bradford, London (Stansted and Gatwick), Manchester, Newcastle and Brussels.
Once the new airport at Corvera opens San Javier is likely to revert to an exclusively military airport.
