Former Mayor of Calasparra and now Government Delegate to the regional government of Murcia, Jose Velez pledged his support for the Camarillas Via Verde Project at a meeting with the Mayoress of Calasparra, Teresa Garcia.
At the meeting the first steps were taken towards securing funding for the project which would run along the now disused railway from Cieza to Camarillas.
Jose Velez agreed with the proposals of the proposal for a “mixed” via verde, preserving the rails for possible district services and tourism.
The Government Delegate also supports the start of a process of institutional coordination with Castilla La Mancha, the Murcia region and the Ministry.
In order for the project to start immediately lines of external finance are being studied, and in particular EU funds Rural Development in relation to the depopulation of an eminently rural area.
The Mayor of Cieza, Pascual Lucas, also attended the meeting.
