This is how the Mayoress of Calasparra, Teresa Garcia, described the decision to cancel all activities during the Fiestas of the local Patron Saints where crowd numbers cannot be controlled.
“It is a sad decision and it pains us all but we must all be responsible,” said the Mayoress announcing that the fiesta programme would be adapted to the current situation by holding those events where the numbers could be controlled and the safety and health measures maintained.
President of the Patron Saints Brotherhood, Juan Antonio Garcia, said: “We understand that we cannot celebrate the fiestas in the same manner as previous years.”
The revised programme for the fiestas, traditionally held in the last week of July, will be published in the next few days.
