GOVERNMENT GUIDE FOR RETURNING TO WORK

Today the Government will allow some non-essential businesses to return to work and has published a guide to help workers protect themselves from the virus.
Industrial and construction companies which were forced to close for two weeks under the State of Alarm are allowed to resume business from today.
Businesses such as shops, entertainment centres and restaurants (except those which deliver) will remain closed.
This guide also applies to essential activities which were not suspended such as food distribution and the production of health products.
These are the main recommendations for workers.

Do not go to work if you have any symptoms of the virus (coughing, fever, breathing difficulties) and seek medical advice. You should not return to work until it has been confirmed that you are no longer a risk to yourself or to others.

Use private transport if possible. Go to work on a motorbike, bicycle or walk. If you do this you do not need to wear a mask. Keep a distance of two meres from anyone else.
Use your own car. One person in the front and one in the back maximum. If you use your own car you should clean it very carefully. If more than one person travels in the car wear masks.

If you use public transport wear a hygiene not medical mask. The driver of the bus will ensure you keep your distance and monitor the capacity of the bus.
*The type of mask recommended is not the type used by medical staff but a hygiene or barrier mask, which are being distributed by the local police, Guardia Civil and Civil Protection.

Keep two metres distance from anyone else while working and when arriving and leaving work, in common areas or changing areas. Avoid gathering in groups.

Minimize contact between clients and staff by controlling capacity and keeping two metres between people. Online and card payments should be encouraged. Businesses must provide you with personal protection materials.

Set flexible hours and staggered arrivals, departures and avoid gathering in groups. Suspend clocking in systems that use digital fingerprints.

Use face masks when working around other people.

Workers exposed to the public should use gloves and face masks which should be provided by the employer.

Employers should ventilate their facilities at least once a day for more than five minutes. The guidelines recommend that the temperature of the workplace be set between 23ºC and 26ºC. Air filters should be kept clean and the supply of that soap dispensers, anti-bacterial gel, and paper towels guaranteed. Workspaces must be cleaned after every shift. Cleaners should wear masks and gloves.

Wash uniforms or work clothes in at 60 to 90C. Clothes should be removed at the end of a shift and carried in a closed, sealed laundry bag.
