It rained on Friday
night but this did not dampen the enthusiasm of the protesters not dampen their
passion.
Women of Calasparra raised a “feminist cry” against domestic violence, which is
almost reaching epidemic proportions in Spain with women dying weekly at the
hands of their partners or ex partners.
They gathered in the Plaza de la Corredera and wrote their own messages on
placards. “No means No”, “We are not all here, those murdered couldn´’t come”
and “We want to be free and equal” were just some of the messages.
The Local Head of the Department of Equality and Cllr. Antonio Merino, were
amongst representatives of the Town Hall who attended this simple but emotional
demonstration, which also took place, at the same time, in many cities, towns
and villages all over Spain.
