The Met Office has issued a red alert for torrential rain on Thursday for North West Murcia, which includes Calasparra.
The “gota fria” is being caused by a large high depression of cold air pushed our way by Hurricane Dorian.
Rain is expected for most of the day, today, Wednesday, but tomorrow torrential rain and flooding is forecast with up to 70 litres of rain falling an hour and as much as 200 litres in 12 hours. Winds are expected to reach a maximum of 70 kph. The rain is likely to continue throughout Friday.
Calasparra Town Hall has issued the following advice:
Clear rooves, covers, drainpipes and drains
Check areas of your property which have flooded before and protect them
Put documents and objects of value out of reach of flooding
Teach everyone in your home to disconnect the water, gas and electricity
Ensure you have enough water, food and medical supplies for the next few days
Readers are also advised not to park vehicles in low lying areas or areas that have flooded previously and to avoid any unnecessary journeys.
Remember if you have an emergency call the Emergency Services on 112.
