This is the latest advice
for UK nationals living in Spain and facing the UK´s exit, with or without a
deal on October 31.
If you are living in Spain but don’t have your green A4 or credit card-sized
residency certificate by 31 October. Firstly, don’t panic! Try to get your
certificate before the UK leaves the EU – appointments are available in many
places. But some of you may not be able to.
If there’s a deal then any UK national living in Spain before the end of the
implementation period (that’s up to the end of 2020) will be able to register as resident in Spain under the
current rules.
If there’s no deal then the Spanish Government’s no-deal law means any
UK national living in Spain before 31 October will be considered legally
resident for 21 months, even if you don’t currently hold a residency document.
You will, however, need to apply for a residency document during this 21-month
grace period and prove that you were living here before Brexit, which could be through
a padrón certificate (from your town hall) or rental contract, for example. For
