The PSOE Socialist party sealed its landslide victory at the Town Hall on Saturday night when Jose Velez was sworn in for another four years as Mayor of Calasparra, with his majority government.
Calasparra is one of the few Socialist (PSOE) municipal areas in the region of Murcia where many local governments are in the hands of the right wing, Partido Popular and Ciudadanos, often with votes from the extreme right wing party, Voz.
At regional level the story is much the same, after negotiations between the PSOE and Ciudadanos broke down, a deal has been brokered by the three right wing parties, including the extreme right, to form a regional government in the hands of right wing parties led by the Partido Popular.
However, in Calasparra, where there has never been a right wing local government local in 44 years of democracy, the PSOE were celebrating on Saturday night with a Sala de Actos filled to capacity with their voters.
