Calasparra voted
decisively for the PSOE Socialist party in the General Elections yesterday,
Sunday, when participation was a massive 73.99%.
Pedro Sanchez swept to victory nationally but will have to make pacts with other
parties to achieve a parliamentary majority.
Nationally the right wing PP took a beating to the benefit of Ciudadanos, who
came in second. The extreme right wing Voz were expected to take 35 seats or
more but on the night took just 25.
The right wing parties will form the opposition.
Results in Calasparra were PSOE,
2.387 votes (42.47%); PP, 973
votes (17.31%); Ciudadanos, 838 votes (14.91%); Vox, 782 votes, 13′.1%); Unidas
Podemos, 477 votes (8.49%); PACMA, 41
votes (0.73%); Partido Comunista Obrero Español, 9 votes;
Somos Región, 8 votes; Partido Comunista de las
Tierras de España, 5 votes; Izquierda en Positivo, 3 votes; and Recortes Cero,
3 votes.
There were 28 blank votes and 66 declared not
valid.
Voter turnout was higher than the national
average at 73.99%, compared to 69.5) in the 2015 General Election.
The candidates in the General Elections sit in the national Congress and
Senate. The PSOE won a majority in the upper house (Senate).
