If everything goes to plan and the new airport at Corvera opens next summer the regional government has clarified that the UK will be one of the main destinations for flights.
The other main destinations will be Germany, Russia, Holland, East Europe and Norway.
These destinations are the most popular tourist routes but connections to Madrid, Barcelona and the North of Spain are also planned.
The regional government claims it has “numerous contacts” with low cost airlines but, as yet, has not made any formal agreement.
Ryanair, Jet2, Air Berlin, EasyJet, Norwegian and BMI Baby are among the companies who are in negotiations with the region. Spanish airlines Spanair, Vueling andAir Nostrum have also indicated their interest in the new airport.
