The price war between cigarette manufacturers, which softened the effect of central government´s massive tax rises for smokers, is over.
Phillip Morris, makers of Marlboro, Chesterfield y L&M, has announced price rises on a packet of cigarettes of between 25 and 30 cents. The rise, which will probably take effect from tomorrow, will restore prices to their level in the middle of May.
The move places Phillip Morris cigarettes approximately 10 cents above the price of other cigarettes on the market however it seems likely other manufacturers will follow suit and raise their prices in the next few days.
Since the Anti-Tobacco Law came into effect in January, which prohibits smoking in enclosed public places, the sale of cigarettes has fell by 18.99% during the first seven months of 2011.
