The Director General of Traffic is proposing a new national speed limit of 90kph for single carriageway roads to replace the current 100kph limit.
The move, which will probably be introduced before the end of this current legislature in November, aims to cut the number of fatal road traffic accidents by 30%. Some 75% of road traffic fatalities occur on national single carriageway roads in Spain. In 2010 1,730 people died at the wheel of their cars, 1,331 of those were on secondary roads.
