If you need new tyres for your car you can get a grant towards the cost and help the environment at the same time.
The region of Murcia is offering grants towards the cost of changing your tyres that are available between June 10 and December 15 2011 or until the designated funds run dry. The Department of Environment is so keen that residents take up the offer they have posted full details of how to participate in the programme on www.energiamurcia.es and a list of all outlets participating in the scheme is available on www.renove-neumaticos.es.
The region recycles some 12,000 tons of old tyres every year which are used for asphalting the roads. This type of asphalt, part from recycling old tyres, minimizes the acoustic impact of traffic by reducing noise by 40%.
