The region of Murcia has announced three days of mourning for the victims of the earthquake in Lorca which has claimed nine lives, injured at least 130 people and left between 3 and 4,000 people homeless.
The central government has announced two national days of mourning and the President of the Government and the Prince of Asturias attended three funerals for the victims today, Friday, in Lorca.
Today in Calasparra at midday all residents were invited to observe a minute´s silence at 12 midday in the Plaza de la Corredera.
Residents queued to show their solidarity with the victims by donating food at a special Red Cross stall near Friday’s market where the donations were loaded onto a lorry. The food is destined for the between 3 and 4000 victims who are unable to return to their homes and are currently staying in Red Cross camps in the centre of Lorca.
