There are over 20,000 people, including the elderly, women and children, seeking shelter wherever they can in Lorca after being rendered homeless by the earthquake yesterday evening.
Many have lost their homes or cannot return to them due to the precarious state of the buildings following the two massive tremors. For thousands the street is the safest place to be.
Now Calasparra is pulling together to send vital fresh food to the victims of this devastating natural disaster. The Town Hall has organized a lorry which will be parked in the Avenida Primera de Mayo from 9am to 1pm tomorrow, Friday, which will collect food donations.
Basic foods for immediate consumption are most appropriate: fruit, yoghurts, milk, tinned food, bottled fruit juice, bread, baby food, cold meats, salami and any food that can be consumed immediately.
