Calasparra is one of the 17 Spanish cities which have come together to form the National Association of Cave Drawings of the Mediterranean, World Patrimony, which aims to both protect and promote the significance of this ancient art.
In total six autonomous communities, 16 provinces, 17 Town Halls and 11 associations took part in an inauguration ceremony in Madrid this week.
The Head of the local Department of Tourism travelled to the capital to take part in the event.
There are several important cave drawings in Calasparra and recently significant conservation work has been carried out at the Abrigo de Pozo.
