An alert has been issued warning of the possibility that the Tiger Mosquito may already be in Calasparra.
The mosquito, already present in 31 of the 45 municipal areas in the region, delivers a strong bite which can be painful but more importantly is capable of transmitting diseases such as Dengue, Malaria and the Zika Virus.
Although all tests for the mosquito in Calasparra have so far been negative, the Director General of Public Health and the Head of the local Department of the Environment have issued a local alert.
The Head of the local Department of the Environment, Ricardo Garcia, is charged with revising the four traps set every 15 and 30 days.
The mosquito generally bites in the early morning and evening. To avoid its presence it is recommended that any recipients containing water or where water has accumulated should be emptied every week or sealed. Avoid accumulations of water in gutters and sinks and disinfect them with bleach or hot water weekly. Pools and water reserves must be kept clean and correctly chlorinated.
It is also recommended that mosquito nets are installed on windows and doors and specific insect repellents are used on the skin.
In case you are bitten wash the bite, disinfect and if it continues to aggravate seek medical advice.
