The Mayor of Calasparra, José Vélez, demanded more staff for the medical emergency service in Calasparra when he met with the Head of the regional Department of Health and the Head of the Murcian Health Service this week.
Among other matters he raised, the Mayor asked for more staff in order to deliver an emergency health service 24 hours a day, during the night and during fiestas.
He told Manuel Villegas, of the regional Department of Health and Asensio López of the Murcian Health Service that the residents of Calasparra were suffering because on frequent occasions medical staff had to abandon the Health Centre in order to attend to emergencies.
He underlined that residents were being put at risk because the emergency services were understaffed and over stretched.
After the meeting the Mayor said: “The Head of the Department of Health had promised to look into the local emergency services as soon as possible and expand staffing levels in order to guarantee services for patients in need of emergency attention.”
