Alicia Sánchez Gomariz, a pupil in the second year at the local High School, has won first prize in the national short story competition, 21º Premio de Cuentos Fundación Mainel.
Alicia was one of 500 pupils who took part in the competition this year and will have her short story published, with the other nine winners, in the Prize Book, “The World You Love.”
She has also won a collection of books for her school.
The competition is judged not only on literary merit but also on the “solidarity and justice” reflected in the work.
La Fundación Mainel is a private institution, which is independent and nonprofit. Its main object is to develop culture as a general framework for work to fully develop the personality and the respect for fundamental rights and liberties, such as those contained in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
