The Head of the local Department of Citizen Security and Civil Protection is warning local residents to take precautions, tomorrow, Saturday, as an Orange Alert is issued for gale force winds of up to 90kph.
Antonio José Merino, told Radio Calasparra that residents should take precautions such as shutting and securing doors, windows and blinds. All pot plants should be taken indoors as should any other object, which could fall into the street.
Whether you live in the town or in the country you should stay away from facades, walls and trees and avoid buildings under construction or in a poor state of repair.
Residents should avoid the tops of tall building sunless they have taken adequate measures of protection.
As landslides are predicted all except essential travel should be avoided and those who have to travel should be extremely careful of obstructions on the roads.
Heavy waves and strong winds are expected on the coast and these areas should be avoided.
The weather warning is in force from 6am to 6pm on Saturday. There is a Yellow Alert for strong winds on Sunday.
