The Director General of the Environment has issued blanket permission for farmers and small holders, who are at least 400 metres from monte, rivers, river beds or ditches, to burn agricultural waste and prunings from October to May.
If the land is within the 400 metre limit of the monte owners should seek permission from the Environmental Officers at the Forestry Brigade. The permitted hours for burning waste in these areas, once permission has been given, is Monday to Thursday from 11am to 2pm and and the first and third Saturday of the month.
If readers have doubts about their property they can check with the Forestry Brigade.
