A mountain of flowers, traditional regional costumes, singing and dancing: these were the ingredients which make the Fiestas of the Patron Saints of Calasparra so special.
Traditionally a time of joy, the harvest festival mass, in the open air against the backdrop of the hills of Calasparra, in the Square of the Patron Saints, was a gust of fresh air for anguished residents still reeling from the terrible fire which set the Sierra de San Miguel alight the previous night.
Defiant, the Rondalla OAPs music group presented traditional dance and music in full regional costume and during the mass the Kings and Queens of the Harvest were elected and flowers and more flowers were donated by the townsfolk.
More traditional treats this week form part of these Fiestas. See this webpage for full details.
