Finally, after over 10 years of wrangling with the phone companies exhorbitant charges for receiving and sending messages, phone calls and using the Internet while travelling to other European countries will come to en end on June 15.
For many mobile phone customers, who have been landed with massive bills when travelling in Europe, the move will be an enormous relief.
From June 15 you will pay the same price you have in your contract for all calls, messages and Internet use in Spain, when you are in other parts of Europe. You will be notified of the costs by your phone company when you arrive in another EU country.
The only limits are on the excessive use of a mobile in other parts of the EU in order to take advantage of cheaper tariffs in another country. For this reason the phone company has powers to detect this type of «abuse» and the consumer has 14 days to justify their expenditure.
