NEW CAVE DRAWINGS DISCOVERED IN THE ALMADENES

Experts, examining the damage caused to caves in the Almadenes Canyon by the fire in the summer of 2015, have discovered new cave drawings dating back to the Paleolithic era.
A group of archeologists and potholers found the drawings and other materials, such as sketches cut in flint by  Neandertal and Cro-Magnon man, and traces of habitation dating back 30,000 years.
The new discoveries were found in six caves which were explored some 25 years ago but, due to lack of funds, the project was abandoned.
New investigations started after the fire in the summer of 2015, when it feared the Serreta Cave and other nearby cavities, had been damaged.
The new finds are considered to be of “great archeological value” and now Cieza Town Hall will seek funding to continue with the project.
