Some good news at last for air travellers! The unions representing the airport ground staff have called off the strike due to cripple all Spanish airports at Easter after reaching an agreement with AENA.
The unions had claimed that the privatization of services and installations in Spanish airports threatened employment posts and pay and working conditions of their members. Union members had voted in favour of strike action over the Easter holidays and various other “emblematic dates”.
However, although the agreement still has to be ratified by a members’ vote, the unions have secured almost everything they demanded including that AENA guarantee employment posts and existing pay and working conditions after privatization.
The strike still has to be officially called off but any industrial action from this source over Easter seems increasingly unlikely.
