The residents of Valentin, Canara and Campillo de los Jiménez united in a mass protest on Saturday against plans for a rubbish dump on the flanks of the Sierra del Puerto hillside.
Under the slogan “No to the Dump” some 800 people showed their complete opposition to the dump which, they say, “is prejudicial to the environment, very close to the Argos reservoir and local population centres.”
Juan Felipe Pérez Andreu of the Residents Association of Valentín has said: “We are going to stop this dump. Our next step is to tprotest outside the doors of the Regional Assembly.”
At the head of the protest march were ther Mayors of Calasparra, José Vélez, and of Cehegín, José Rafael Rocamora.
Also taking part were different organizations and political parties including Ciudadanos, PSOE, PP, IU-Verdes oandCalasparra-Viva. Also present was the regional deputies Jesús Navarro (PSOE), and José Soria (PP).
